Challenge

Adapt the technical language of the annual report to a more user-friendly writing and tell a story intuitively so lay people can easily understand. Also, bringing users and data information closer with clear highlights on dashboards about the debt situation of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

Results

We centrilized all the annual report content on a website where any users can have total access to transparency data about the public debt.

We have a first summary page highlighting KPIs that also acts as a hook for their tab so users can see more details about them.

We create a storytelling throughtout the website divided on themeds tabs so the content can be more diluted.

Process

Research & Analysis:

We spend weeks studying the current annual report pdf to acknowledge the debt situation and context, also reviewing and gathering insights about how we can transform into a friendly content. On weekly meetings we talked to stakeholders about users profile, pain points, main needs and complaints.

We also anaylise a previous dashboard attempt by the clients that they tried to rework the report pdf.

Discovery & Define:

Based on the findings, we restructured the logical behind the content to a better storytelling, create information architecture guided by user stories and personas, prioritized main features and information according to user needs.

Wireframing & Prototyping:

Designed low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the new layout and navigation flow. These wireframes were iteratively refined during feedback sessions in weekly meetings, ensuring alignment with stakeholders’ expectations.

Visual Design & Style Guide:

We tried to make the debt theme more light and friendly, running from statics and boring colors. At the same time it needed to be happy and trustful, so we choose a brightful blue as main color for the visual language, emphasizing a clean, light/dark mode aesthetics, minimalistic to facilitate data reading. Typography, iconography, and color schemes were carefully selected to enhance clarity and visual appeal.

Conclusion

Designers are always invited to leave their confort zone. On this project I spend a lot of weeks, during a migration process, studying a technical report that doesn't dialog with me personally. It was very hard to assimilate the content, but as long as I kept reading over and over again, it was becoming more understandable. See the clients satisfaction also make everything worth. At the end I feel myself very proud to make this effort for the people on Rio Grande do Sul.
